A Tale Of Two Stupaks

Watch this video as Rep. (D) Bart Stupak complains about the treatment he receives from Democrats while he still opposed the passage of the HCR bill on the grounds that it breaks the Hyde Amendment. The relevant comments begin at 8:18 and go for about a minute. If you watch the whole clip of nearly ten minutes, notice how the conversation from the hosts slants towards promoting the bill to Stupak. Are they on the White House Staff? But before you watch the video...

From the NYT published Jan. 6th 2010 there is this...

"Now he is enduring more hatred than perhaps any other member of Congress, much of it from fellow Democrats. His name has become a slogan: “Stop Stupak!   ”Scott Schloegel, his chief of staff, said wearily, “I can’t tell you how many New Yorkers have called me up and yelled at me about this Stupak guy.”

From Fox News...

"In a surprising and fascinating look at the behind-the-scenes negotiations of proposed health care legislation on Capitol Hill, a prominent Democrat says the actions of his party’s leaders in recent days represents a “pretty sad commentary on the state of the Democratic party.”

“[E]ven if they don’t have the votes, it’s been made clear to us that they won’t insert our language on the abortion issue,” Stupak says.   “I really believe that the Democratic leadership is simply unwilling to change its stance. Their position says that women, especially those without means available, should have their abortions covered.”

Stupak offers an interesting take on why party leaders don’t want his effort to succeed.  “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue – come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”

Stupak’s prominence and apparent resolve on this issue has increased the political heat on the nine-term Democrat.   “This has really reached an unhealthy stage,” Stupak says. “People are threatening ethics complaints on me. On the left, they’re really stepping it up. Every day, from Rachel Maddow to the Daily Kos, it keeps coming. Does it bother me? Sure. Does it change my position? No.”

So now (?)...  Rep. (D) Bart Stupak complains again about his treatment from the right following his vote "Yes" on the HCR.

Dr. Dan Benishek is running for the seat that Stupak now holds. Check him out for yourself.

On Facebook.

Here's a link to his official website.

Palin Stumps For McCain?

Sarah proves she's just another politician... What to see the proof?

Here in black and white you'll find a point by point breakdown of the issues and who stands where in the AZ Senate race.

J.D. Hayworth deserves a look based on the issues we're facing. Take a look for yourself.

As I always say... if you want change look to the primary for it.

American Revolution

Life, Liberty and Property is the American Dream. Remember that!

So we don't lose sight, the American Experiment is about self government. The emphasis is on the individual. With that emphasis are rights and responsibilities inherent. It seems we have forgotten these things.

Command and Control

The American Experiment brought to the forefront the idea that "All men are created equal". We threw off the shackles of Kingdom. King George could no longer rule by his "divine right", he had to respect that each of us have rights of our own that do not descend from any earthly monarch but are bestowed in each individual human as a matter of course by the very fact of our creation. This is the root of Natural Law.

The Counter-Revolution of Carl Marx seeks to re-stratify the relationship. This is what we are seeing before us today. No longer is our practice of self government the law of the land. We have withstood "patient sufferance" while watching the American Experiment unfold under the slow and self-insinuating assault on liberty by bureaucratic means. Laws pass which effect an erosion of our freedoms. One was significantly signed into law on Tuesday.

Losing the Language

So today... as you go about your business, remember that the American Experiment was brought on by the American Revolution. Reasserting those fundamental principals which won our freedom is counter only to tyranny.

A Call For Calm And Concentration

Boiling Point?

Conservatives turn our passions into action. We do not and cannot let the loss we have suffered yesterday boil over out of the bounds of legitimate action. Any passionate act which transcends the bounds of moral decency will not be tolerated.

Let's go back to John Locke, 1690. In his Second Treatise On Government Locke poses a situation where you are put in danger of your life by a robber. He contends, if you defend yourself from an attack by this person and in so doing take his life, you are justified in that act of self defense. But... if you manage to subdue the attacker without taking his life, you are not justified in taking his purse, as retribution.

You may feel strongly in your anger and disappointment. You may wish to lash out at those who you feel have ignored the will of the people. Our actions must now turn to the next phase.

Primary, Primary, Primary

We all recognize the reason April 15th is a little over five months after our nationwide election day, it helps incumbents. They have about six months time between their promises and your receipt of the bill. And then another six between the sting of the bill and the vote for their re-election. "How's that workin' out for ya?"

All Politics Is Local

The promise of power in our Representative Republic has shifted to the selection of Candidates for office at the primary level. This is the power we must begin again to exert. Seek out and support the most Conservative candidate at every level, for every office. Then they must be held accountable. If they seem "changed" by their time in office, find a new representative with real backbone. We have this fight every two years. We can reassert the idea that this is a country where we practice self-government.

Primary Concerns

After you've taken a breath, realize this isn't over.

"But what can I do?!?!?!"

For many states, the primary contests are not over. Be heard. Help choose the most conservative candidate to run against the Democrat in your district. Once that choice has been made through the local process, vote the way you feel today. Many of us will have only a RINO as a choice. Going third party only brings the left another victory. "What can I do?" you may ask. Pull the Republican Party back to it's conservative roots. Make your voice heard in the primary. This will be a process and one which may take some time. If you fall for the third party movement... it will take longer than you have in your lifetime. Act now... primary season is well underway. Take this passion and carry it forward.

If we don't meet at one of the primary events...

Levin v. Frum

Many of us learned the name David Frum last night on the Mark Levin Show. Now we have his number, too. An exchange with Frum over his comments in an article concerning Rush Limbaugh will doubtless cause the Alphabet News Media to declare "Division in the ranks of Conservatives", "Infighting on the Right" or some such non-sense.

Left Leaning Policy Wonk
Let me set the record straight, here. David Frum is no Conservative. He is clearly the kind of Republican who helped Obama win in November. He comes from the left wing of Republican Party where it is better to be in the middle and be liked, than to stand for what is right.

Fuzzy Math
Let's go through the math. Frum may write well enough but needs help with his math skills. Here is an analysis one might expect from someone like Frum... "well if there are 15%-20% of those on the right who will never change their minds and there are 15%-20% of those on the left who will never change their minds that leaves 60%-70% in the middle who can be persuaded. Bad math is one way to look at it. Fuzzy math is another. It's too bad that Frum has sought to ride on the coattails of Newt Gingrich's 70% solution but to then miss the point, entirely... that's sad.

The Color of Socialism
Frum showed his cards not only in that his website, NewMediocrity.com is covered with the orange color which typifies European Socialist Parties in but in that he is a product of Ivy Leaugue Liberalism. Look at his resume. Okay... I get it. Orange isn't either Red or Blue. Mr. Frum, please remember, it's a mixture of Red and YELLOW!

By all rights, Conservatism's true color is blue. Blue for the limitless possibilities symbolized by the boundless sky above. Blue for the color of blood pumping through the body as it's doing its job. Not that color we see when we're suffering from blood loss. The media gave us the color Red to hide the fact that they were, at the time, Pink. Not like Code Pink... but Pink as in "Pinko" a term for the few of you who don't know it, was used to describe pro-communist or communist leaning individuals during the Cold War. Unfortunately for them, red is the most powerful color in the spectrum. Since we're stuck with it, we may as well use it to beat them back.

The Founding
The process of the left is to promote the most current idea and applaud at the novelty of it and impress it upon society. Mr. Frum, this is the process in which you're involved. Herding sheep is not what the men who blazed the trail for us in our founding had in mind. They studied John Locke and weighed the issues with great care. They realized the key to a stable and productive society lay as much in the protection afforded by the freedom of the individual as in the responsibility taken for their own actions and self intersest. They weren't trying to eek out a living in the margin of what the King left as table scraps. They had grown tired of those intrusions.

Policy for the sake of scoring points is no victory. Principle and its expression , expansion and the educating of it is the task at hand.  Make up your own minds. We have to win this fight with a stance for what is right and not what seems like the best idea, right now.

See you Tuesday November 3, 2009.
